2025 Aviation Summer Camp

2025 Aviation Summer Camp

The Aviation Museum of Kentucky has conducted summer aviation camps for youth in Kentucky since 1996. The Bowling Green – Warren County Regional Airport has been hosting aviation summer camps since 2005.

The Bowling Green camps will be held again this summer, and we are fortunate to have two camps again this year, and registration is OPEN!

The Aviation Museum of Kentucky gives each chosen airport the opportunity to name their camp after individuals who have contributed to aviation summer camps. This year, our title sponsors are Jim and Jan Bohannon and Larry and Mona Beam. Without such gracious donors, many children would not have the opportunity to experience aviation on such a personal level.

The Jim and Jan Bohannon Aviation Summer Camp for ages 10-17 will be held on July 7-8, 2025 and The Larry and Mona Beam Aviation Summer Camp for ages 10-adult will be held July 8-9, 2025. This way families can attend together! Camps are from 8:30 am to 3:30 pm each day. The purpose of the camp is to introduce youth to aviation, to educate about the many different aviation related careers, and to reaffirm the important role that aviation and the airport play in the community.

A typical camp consists of two full days of activities for attendees, including a photo with an airplane, along with lunch and snacks for each camper. Activities include topics such as aircraft instruments, engine and aircraft design, use of aeronautical maps for navigation, flight planning, weather, NASA space, practicing landings and takeoffs with a flight simulator, and most importantly, the students will assist in flying a real airplane with a FAA Certified Flight Instructor, from our local flight school Flywell Aviation.

Campers will get to go to the Aviation Heritage Park and Museum (1825 Three Springs Road) to take a tour. The tour includes tour of the aircraft outside with speakers telling the history of the aircraft and the aircrafts connection to local aviators. Some of whom will be our tour guides. The tour also includes the museum where aircraft, artifacts, videos, images and interactive screens, to tell inspiring stories of local aviators. Parent approval is considered to be granted since it is a part of the camp program. If parents do not approve, they will need to notify camp and airport staff and make arrangements to pick up their child up at noon on the day of the tour.

The deadline for all applications if May 15, 2025. Camp registration is ONLINE ONLY.  The cost of camp is $289.00 per student and to register visit: www.aviationky.org. The Museum is using a new online registration system this year, so please be patient.
