2024 Aviation Summer Camp

The Aviation Museum of Kentucky, Inc. has conducted summer aviation camps for youth in Kentucky since 1996. The Bowling Green Warren County Regional Airport has been hosting summer aviation camp since 2005.

The Bowling Green camps will be held again this summer and we are fortunate to have two camps this year. The Jim and Jan Bohannon Aviation Summer Camp for ages 10-17 will be held on July 8-9, 2024 and The Bob and Cara Pitchford Aviation Summer Camp for ages 10-adult will be held on July 10-11, 2024. This way families can attend together! Camps are from 8:30 am to 3:30 pm each day. The purpose of the camp is to introduce youth to aviation, to educate about the many different aviation related careers, and to reaffirm the important role that aviation and the airport play in the community.

A typical camp consist of two full days of activities for attendees, including a photo with airplane, along with lunch and snacks for each camper. Activities include topics such as aircraft instruments, engine and aircraft design, use of aeronautical maps for navigation, flight planning, weather, NASA space, practicing landings and takeoffs with a flight simulator, and most importantly, the students will assist in flying a real airplane with a FAA Certified Flight Instructor, from our local flight school, Flywell Aviation.

New this year campers will get to go to Aviation Heritage Park and Museum (1825 Three Springs Rd.) and take a tour. Parent approval is considered to be granted since it is a part of the camp program. If parents do not approve, they will need to notify airport staff  and to make arrangements to pick their child up at noon on the day of the tour.

The deadline for all applications is May 27, 2024. Camp application and scholarship applications are available ONLINE only. The cost of camp is $279.00 per student and to register visit www.aviationky.org and click on the camp link for Bowling Green and reserve your spot. Always double check your location and date before hitting submit.

Each year, a limited number of scholarships are awarded to select students. If applying for a scholarship, a camp registration application must still be filled and $20.00 fee must be paid to be considered for a scholarship. You will receive confirmation of camp registration when fee is paid and at a later date you will be notified by email if a scholarship was awarded.
