2026 Aviation Summer Camp
The Aviation Museum of Kentucky has conducted summer aviation camps for youth in Kentucky since 1996. The Bowling Green – Warren County Regional Airport has been hosting summer aviation camps since 2005. The Aviation Museum of Kentucky provides teachers and staff to take your aviation knowledge to new heights.
Aviation summer camp will be held this summer at the Bowling Green – Warren County Regional Airport. There will be two camps, the Jim and Jan Bohannon Aviation Summer Camp will be held July 6-7, 2026 for ages 10-17 and the Larry and Mona Beam Aviation Summer Camp will be help July 8-9, 2026 for ages 10-adult. This way families can attend together! Camps are from 8:30 am to 3:30 pm each day. The purpose of aviation summer camp is to introduce youth to aviation, to educate about the many different aviation related careers, and to reaffirm the important role that aviation and the airport play in the community.
A typical camp consist of two full days of activities for attendees, including group photo with airplane, along with lunch and snacks for each camper. Activities include topics such as aircraft design and operation, use of aeronautical maps for navigation, flight planning, weather, space exploration, practicing landings and take offs on a flight simulator, and most importantly and the highlight of the camp is a flight over Bowling Green in which the students assists the pilot, an FAA certified flight instructor with local flight school Flywell Aviation.
This year campers will get to go to the Aviation Heritage Park and Museum (1825 Three Springs Road) to take a tour of the airplanes and the musuem. Parent approval is considered to be granted since it is a part of the camp program. If parents do not approve, they will need to notify airport and camp staff prior to noon on the day of the tour. If your child is not attending you will need to make arrangements to pick your child up at noon day of the tour.
Registration is ONLINE only and to register visit www.aviationky.org and at the top of the page click on the ‘Camp Registration” link, on the next page scroll down click on “Away Camps” link, on the next page scroll down and find the Bowling Green locations and find the camp you want, and click on the ‘More Information’ link and there you will find the ‘Registration” link. The Sawyer registration system is being used again this year by the museum. Be sure you add a current email address and check regularly for emails. The cost of camp is $289.00 per student and each camp has 36 spots available.
Each year, a limited number of scholarships are awarded to select students. If you will be applying for a scholarship, there is a $50.00 fee required at time of registration.
